1973 MGB HIF Carburetor Adjustment

Setting up SU HIF carburetors on a 1973 MGB

Dave, I just wanted to say "Thank You" for your time in helping me get my carbs fine-tuned. On yesterday’s drive home and later on a short drive in the evening, I could tell it runs much better. It consistently idles at the same RPM's at stop signs, and is smoother.

I really enjoyed it and the time spent with you! Thanks again for your work in the summer Tech sessions, and I read every one of your articles in the newsletters and try to learn something. - Jim

1952 MG TD Carburetor Adjustment

Bruce backs up his TD after the carburetors were set up

Great event. Super people. Even got Dave Braun to give me a tech session on setting up TD carbs. He approaches it from a engineer’s point of view (which he is) and it makes a lot more sense than any of the instructions I have read. I would bet that the majority of TD's probably do not have their floats set to the optimal point. They have not run better in many years -Bruce

1967 MGB GT Tune up

A very nice 67 MGB GT that just needed some TLC

I took my '67 BGT with 95,000 original miles over to Dave for a tune up last week. I truly believe having someone else review your work is well worth it.

I found that I tend to set the valves on the tight side. I also did not have the timing as nice as it could. Carbs were reset, oiled the distributor advance weights, and changed the spark plugs. (Car is running petronix ignition.)

Car has noticeably more power and gas mileage has gone up by 10 mpg. Now I know that sounds incredible, but going over to his place (about 150 miles) the car got about 22 mpg. It ran ok. Filled it up on the way home and when I got home it was 26 mgp.

This weekend I did 350 miles. Was very careful on the fill-ups to try and get a full tank. Mileage was 31.5 mpg for a trip with about 3/4 of the mileage at 70 MPH and the rest at 45 to 55. Minimal city driving.

Total was under $200 which I consider a good deal in that not only is the car running much better and getting better gas mileage, but I learned about things I was not doing as well as I could.

1951 MG TD Restoration Assitance

Wiring Bill's Dash, and no, I'm still awake, not napping on the job!

Dave, I wanted to call you to see whether or not you might have a little time to lend your brain to a few obstacles I managed to get myself entwined in, and whether you might be able to rescue the few hairs I have left getting them straightened out. The main thing being wiring up the dash board so that I might proceed with the installation.

I want to thank you once again for your time and efforts in getting my little money pit down the road to completion. I have decided that I am not going to get the job done without your continued help and expertise. You left me with a lot of jobs to do but now at least I know how to complete them! Please believe me when I say I totally appreciate your help!

Thanks a ton for all your help yesterday. The car ran much better on the way home. Didn't kill once. -Bill

And Sometimes People Just Want to Write and Say "Thanks"

Hi Dave, I`m mailing from Hampshire, England, and I`ve just watched your album on reupholstering the seats of your TD. I`ve just started doing that myself with a Moss kit and didn't have much of a clue on how to do it until I saw your excellent sequence on your web site. My car looks like the same colour as yours and I`m doing the interior Tan instead of green.

You`ve answered so many questions about the job that I feel much more confident in doing it now.I hope I can get mine as good as yours, I just felt that I must write and thank you for your effort in chronicling the rebuild. I hope you enjoy driving your TD. Thanks again for your help.

All the best,

Gerry
